La maldita primavera
(The damn spring)
2023
The damn spring is a pictorial montage of intertextuality in which various lines of research on the suffering of mental health illnesses and the history of representation in Western culture converge. This interweaving of references poses a staging within the exhibition space, where the works of art become characters frozen in time waiting for their narrative to be developed.
The elements in The damn spring are located in the context of a theatrical painting and the Remix theory. They are cutouts taken from a bank of images that the artist has compiled in recent years to build a bridge between his personal history, the history of psychopharmacology and the History of Art. The damn spring addresses discussions about mental health that were relegated to silence in previous times, and reformulates them into tangential questions about the purpose of reproduction, the price in the figure of creative genius, and therefore in the sufferings that we experience collectively.
